Challenge

JAM Media set out to produce a unique live action/animation hybrid TV series, aimed at 6 to 12 year-olds, that shows the life of a cartoon boy living in the real world, in the heart of Dublin. Roy has a distinctly Irish feel, with memorable characters, humour and wit and uses Dublin city as its backdrop. The challenge was to have Roy appeal to a large national and worldwide audience without losing its distinctive Irish character.

Impact

Roy has four series commissioned, is broadcast in over ten territories from Canada to Australia and has won multiple awards, including a BAFTA for Best Children’s Drama, a Royal Television Award and a Kidscreen Award. Two spin-off series, The Roy Files and Little Roy, are currently in production. Roy has also featured in a stamp issued by An Post (Irish postal service).

JAM Media has operations in both Ireland and the United Kingdom and is one of the leading creators and producers of multi-award winning animated and live action content for the children’s and pre-school audiences. The company prides itself on delivering high quality, innovative, story-driven brands across multiple platforms based around engaging characters, with humour always at the heart. JAM Media was founded in 2002 by animator friends John Rice, Alan Shannon and Mark Cumberton.
